Golden State Warriors' New Home Will Be an Entertainment Hub in San Francisco
After 47 years, the Golden State Warriors are leaving behind Oakland to move across the Bay to the new, state of the art Chase Center in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood. The new stadium will seat more than 18,000 people and will not only be home to the Warriors, but also concerts and other events ubiquitous to arenas. The stadium is scheduled to open in the fall. "This is the first time in the history of San Francisco that we will have a world class sports and entertainment arena. There is no city half its size in the country that doesn't already have that," Warriors Chief Operating Officer and President Rick Welts told TheStreet Tuesday. The Chase Center sits on a 10 and a half acre development that features three and a half acres of public space, two office towers, 100,000 square feet of mostly restaurant and retail. "It's not only the Warriors, its 140 other entertainment events throughout the year as a gift to the city. Now we have a place for all those artists and entertainers to come and show there skills," Welts said. The Warriors brass decided to privately fund the stadium and received no discounts on the land which sits in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Related.
