Police are appealing for witnesses after a car crashed into a wall in Torquay and was abandoned by the driver.

At around 3pm on Saturday 4 July, a man drove a white BMW through a bus stop into a garden wall on Fore Street, Torquay, without the consent of the vehicle’s owner. A man, wearing all black and a surgical face mask, subsequently fled on foot into Sutherland Drive.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or have any CCTV or dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident, particularly around Fore Street and the Watcome shops roundabout, Medway Road and Sutherland Drive.

A 22-year-old man from Kingsteignton has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, failing to stop after a collision, dangerous driving, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. He has been released on police bail until Saturday 25 July pending further enquiries.

Anyone with any information which could assist police enquiries is asked to contact police on 101 or email 101@dc.police.uk requesting to speak to PC Oliver Hill and quoting log number 468, 4/7/20.
