Soup Kitchen Steps Up To Deliver To The Community

Friday 10 July, 2020Ealing Soup Kitchen, a small homeless charity based in West London, has been running a free home delivery service, serving tonnes of food every week to hundreds of addresses all around London, despite many charities and organisations now stopping services and going back to work.

"The demand for our service is only getting bigger" says Andrew Mcleay, Soup Kitchen organiser, who along with volunteers Sorrelle Liles & Simone Welch, formed the home delivery service early in the Corona virus period.

"Just because other charities are winding down, doesn't mean we will. We want to hang on delivering until everyone is able to get out to the shops and can be looked after. If we can't look after our community in this time, then what is the point?" Andrew said.

Andrew and his team have a huge number of volunteers and charities who help supply the donated food, drive food parcels out to the isolated and help pack and organise the food. It's a big task, but one they feel is worth it.

"It's amazing to deliver to so many who are so grateful for what we give them. We are delivering to people who used to volunteer for us but are now shielding, to people who used to support us financially before this coronavirus mess but now have no money, to small and large families and to the many homeless we've helped house. We get such lovely letters from the people we help" Mcleay said.

The service has been running throughout the majority of the coronavirus period and will run up until after the 1st August date when shielding & isolated people are then allowed to go shopping.
