Cherie Blair commends film made under Covid restrictions to support Olivia Coleman’s anti-domestic abuse charity. Poet Robbie Frazer and London’s MetFilm School staff donned masks and face shields to create a moving short film to help raise money for The Crown actress Olivia Coleman’s charity, Tender  (tender.org.uk). The team is hoping to raise £1,000 to support abuse-prevention workshops for up to 150 children and young people. The film, ‘Fabulous Pheobe’ has been widely applauded and recognised.Cherie Blair described the film as:“A vivid description of how domestic abuse impacts on a person”Prize-winning poet Robbie Frazer, multi award-winning iPhone filmmaker Cassius Rayner, METFilm’s Alex Lopera and acclaimed actor Dani Blue collaborated to create Fabulous Phoebe, an 11 minute short film which slowly reveals Phoebe’s life-changing decision. But due to the pandemic, the team had to get creative.“We looked at film studios but they were all closed,” said Frazer. “We rented a flat instead, but we couldn’t pack a full crew into a small space and still be safe, so we improvised with an iPhone! Vulnerable family members of ours meant that we had to be very careful. We made the film standing 6 feet apart in a tiny space, pinned to the walls and dressed like something out of Contagion. It looked like a scene out of an ICU. But if it raises awareness of domestic abuse at this time, and raises money for its prevention, it will all have been worth it.”Olivia Colman, Tender’s Patron, says: “I believe the work Tender is doing with young people, educating them about healthy and unhealthy relationships, is important, inspiring and imperative. Domestic violence prevention education can make a real difference, enabling young people to avoid abusive relationships in later life.”Jonny Persey, Director of MetFilm School said:“This is a great initiative and I hope as many people as possible will support the campaign. Film is such a powerful tool, it not just for entertainment … and this film demonstrates beautifully and poetically how it can help us understand and feel what life might be like in another’s shoes, it can provoke us to respond to injustices; and it can inspire us to see the world through a lens we may not have considered.”Robbie Frazer comments:“Before I set down to write it, I had asked many people about their experiences of the first Covid lockdown. I was inundated with intimate stories of both abuse and hope. That contrast just demanded to be filmed.”See the film here: www.fabulousphoebe.co.ukSee the 40 sec. trailer here: https://www.poetryfilms.co.uk/trailer/fabulous-phoebe/
