US President Donald Trump’s ceremonious holiday partial lockdown continues, as the US government looks set to remain halfway shut well into 2019. The partial shutdown of government arrived ahead of the festive period as the President failed to receive $5 billion he has claimed to require in order for his border wall along US and Mexico to the south to be raised. As there has continued to be no movement with regard to the funding, Trump has closed down the government on a partial basis – and, according to media reports, he looks set to promise more sanctions if the money he has requested isn’t found shortly.

“We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with.” Trump advised via Twitter, as he is wont to do, regarding his feelings on the ongoing lockdown. His most recent words suggest, it would appear, that he and his team are ready to close the border between the US and Mexico completely should things persist.

“The United States looses [sic] soooo much money on Trade with Mexico under NAFTA, over 75 Billion Dollars a year (not including Drug Money which would be many times that amount), that I would consider closing the Southern Border a ‘profit making operation,” the President continued.

The White House has continued to assert that Democrats, set to take majority charge of the House of Representatives in January, are refusing to fund Trump’s famous mooted Mexico border wall. The wall was a key promise throughout much of the President’s 2016 General Election campaign rhetoric. However, two years into his Presidency, Trump is now resorting to partially shutting down the government unless funding is achieved.

Around 800,000 government employees at federal level have been working without pay or have been placed on leave during the shutdown process, and it seems that the stalemate will be likely to continue into the New Year following a lack of immediate action from Congress late into Christmas week. Claims have been made by Republicans that Democrats are refusing to negotiate on the funding matter – and as things stand right now, it appears the stalemate will be set to persist. 2018 has been another dramatic year for US politics – and 2019, it seems, will start off on a whole new level.

Trump Stands By Wall
On Monday President Trump bucked against claims that his administration has abandoned a concrete wall on the border, despite his own outgoing chief of staff's statements that the idea was ruled out "early on in the administration." Trump tweets, "An all concrete Wall was NEVER ABANDONED, as has been reported by the media." Trump tweeted this without mentioning his outgoing chief of staff, John Kelly.
