According to a report by Business Insider, on Friday, Theresa May resigned as leader of the Conservative party, triggering the start of a leadership race which will see her replaced as prime minister in late July. The 1922 Committee of backbench Conservative MPs reportedly confirmed that, on Friday afternoon, prime minster Theresa May handed in her notice.
