Russia Opens World Cup With Huge Win Against Saudi Arabia

Wochit - Thursday, 14 June 2018

Russia kicked off the 2018 FIFA World Cup with a 5-0 victory in their opening game against Saudi Arabia.

Russia entered the tournament ranked 70th in the world, three places below Saudi Arabia.

Russian president Vladimir Putin said his country's team would "fight until the end." A lot of the focus at this year's tournament has concerned more than football: there are political tensions to consider.

CNN reported that Putin has called for nations to set their differences aside to "share the love of football.".
