CBS47 Sidelines Week Seven - 10/6/17

Scott and you are looking live inside a carl's junior in fresno..

Where the bullard knights are celebrating tonight.

They beat sanger 27-6 in our carl's junior game of the week tonight.

More with them and julia lopez in a little bit.

Scott scott bemis and andrew marden here... and welcome to week seven of cbs-47 sidelines... presented by chevron.

Andrew still to come... a battle of unbeatens at c-v-c... and a hidden highlight from merced.

Scott but we start at veterans memorial stadium in clovis.

Scott 4-and-1 clovis west hosting 1- and-4 clovis north in the trac opener for both schools.

Clovis unified doing their usual great work to raise awareness for breast cancer.

There was pink everywhere.

On the golden eagles opening drive... it's dante sash-a-ray on the q-b keeper... 7-nothing clovis west.

Now c-dub has a kicker named eli rio-frio... love the name, love the game.

Nails the 44-yarder with ease.

That made it 10-zip... and early 2nd quarter... it's little tykee woods on the swing pass.

Gets lost behind the official... and the broncos defense can't find him either.

45 yards to the house.

Clovis west wins it 34-13.

They're now 5-and-1 overall.

Scott pink also the color of choice at lamonica... the battle for the boot between clovis east and clovis.

The cougars had won the last seven in this series... but we were tied at 14 at half.

3rd quarter though... clovis jumps in front... reef dove on the sweep... listed as a receiver on the roster... but looking pretty good running ball here.

21-14 clovis.

4th quarter now... same score... after a long run by wyatt hess sets up the cougars deep in t-wolves territory... it's jake sanders throwing it up... and michael machado bringing it down.

Clovis east is improving and showed some fight... but clovis a little too much... 28-14.

Andrew over at sunnyside stadium it was homecoming tonight for the edison tigers.

Homecoming means balloons...this kid hard at work on the sideline.

Third quarter it's a one-score game...edison's taylin green wants to make sure madera goes nowhere...reads that play perfectly.

Tigers would get the ball shortly thereafter.

Mckinley lee gets the handoff...and he's gone.

He's fast...a 38-yard touchdown run puts edison up 22-7.

Next tiger possession...it's lee again...this one a 32-yard touchdown.

Edison wins easily, 43-14.

The tigers even their season record at 3-3.

Scott alright... time to head out live to julia lopez at that carl's junior in fresno.

She's got more on tonight's carl's junior game of the week.... won by the xxx julia?

Julia lopez julia lopez live with xxx at the carl's junior here in xxx.... where xxx was victorious tonight.

Let's show some highlights from this one.

Julia let's take a look at the highlights... let's go to ratcliffe stadium at fresno city where the 5 and oh sanger apaches took on the 1 and 4 bullard knights.

---------- sanger strikes first... apaches' junior jalen cropper fakes the handoff and takes it in for the quarterback keeper.

They'd miss the pat and go up 6-0.

------------ but that lead wouldn't last... thanks to bullard's junior running back marcus fulcher... he runs through the d and the knights go up 7-6.

------------- 3rd quarter, same score... knights' quarterback kuh-lay uh-faw-gee floats it to josh kelly for the score... and it's 14-6 bullard.

---------------- how about the defense though?

Sanger trying to get something together and it gets picked off by corey scott... fulcher would punch it in later... the bullard knights hand sanger its first loss of the season, 27-6.

Julia lopez julia interviews members of the team.

Interview 1 interview 2 scott, let's go back to you in the studio.

Thanks julia.

Still to come on cbs-47 sidelines, presented by chevron.

Selma and c-v-c buck heads in visalia... in a game with huge league and seeding implications.

As we go to break though... take a look at some scores... outcue: cheeering :04-08 anthony bailey "how's it going guys oh yeah, you can see, they are ready to have a good time here" scott friday's... the high school football coverage starts early in the morning here on c-b-s 47... when our morning show goes to a couple schools for their morning matchup, sponsored by papa murphy's.

Today... they were at corcoran and granite hills... getting those student bodies ready for their football game tonight.

Scott fresh off it's first valley title in 36 years... the selma bears have picked up right where they left off... opening the season 5-and-oh.

They got a tough test tonight though... traveling to visalia for a meeting with fellow unbeaten and central sequoia league rival central valley christian.

Scott to visalia we go.

A full moon out for this contest.

But not affecting selma quarterback junior ramirez here... lofts a beauty to ivan valdez... that tied things at six early.

2nd quarter now... c-v-c quraterback j-j lino... who threw two touchdown passes himself... hands off to an emerging star in the valley... sophomore running back... jaa-len rening.

He walks in easily.

C-v-c hands selma it's first loss of the year... 27-13.

The cavs now 6-and-oh.

Scott staying in visalia for redwood and hanford.

The rangers coming off a nice win last week over golden west.

Early on... it's hector gonzalez to la-dre aguilar for the touchdown... 7- nothing rangers.

Hanford would respond though... theron dutra keeps it and runs it in for the one yard td... we're tied at 7.

Then... it's juaron watts-brown of the bullpups to jupri hughes... yeah... ju-ju's little brother.

The pups led 13-7 at half... but despite visual evidence to the contrary... the rangers score 26 un-answered in the second half and win it 33-13.

They're now 4-and-3.

Andrew let's go to kerman where the story all week was quarterback sean chambers.

On monday he decommitted from rutgers.

On tuesday he committed to wyoming.

Tonight the future cowboy led his lions into battle against chowchilla.

No score in the second quarter...kerman with the ball...chambers with a nice pass to charlie castellanos.

That's 21 yards and a first down.

Later in the drive...chambers showing how well he can run...keeps it for a nice gain until he's pushed out of bounds.

That drive would end in a touchdown.

Chowchilla would answer right back.

Cody woolsey with a perfectly thrown ball that's caught for a 15-yard score.

Game tied at 7.

Kerman would score again before halftime and go on to win, 35-20.

The lions are now 6-1 this season.

Andrew at mclane tonight... it was 2-and-3 sunnyside... visiting 3-and-2 roosevelt.

North yosemite league opener for both schools.

Defenses performing well early in the 2nd half.

Enrique arroyo of the rough riders with a big sack.

And then the wildcats return the favor... as a host of cats take down roosevelt quarterback jordan de la rosa.

This one tight throughout... in the 4th... sunnyside takes an 8-point lead thanks to the rushing score.

Roosevelt would score late... but miss the 2-point conversion which would have tied the game.

Cats win a tight one... 20-to-18.

Scott of course... as mentioned earlier.... xxx beat xxx in our carl's junior game of the week.

And julia lopez is standing by with the winners.

Julia.

Julia lopez julia interviews members of the team.

Interview 1 interview 2 scott, let's go back to you in the studio.

Thanks julia.

Not done yet on this edition of cbs-47 sidelines, presented by chevron... coming up.

We head to merced for a hidden highlight featuring a young sophomore who stepped up big for the bears.

Stay andrew let's take you back to last night.

Huge showdown between central and buchanan... ranked one- and-two respectively in the fresno bee coaches poll.

The bears got a big night from running back trevor irvin... 39 yards on this touchdown run...he scored four times last night... and rushed for 210 yards.

30 seconds left now... grizzlies with the ball down by six...tompkins had three interceptions in this game but when his team needed a touchdown, he delivered.

To jacob torrez!

Grizzlies get the point after and win by one.

Central wins a wild one... 28-27.

:00 :18 trent tompkins "i honestly think the battling back ya know we're down 4th quarter, last drive, not many teams can say they come back and score on a last second touchdown.

I'm proud of my guys ya know that wasn't me, all me, ya know i messed up a lot, i had a lot mistakes in the game and ya know i had my guys pick me up and we won the game just because of it."

Kyle biggs "resilient kid um i knew he was gonna make a play in the end i knew he was gonna make a play when it mattered.

Give the ball to him on the last play of the game, i'll take it every time."

Andrew now we get to as many games as we can... but we certainly can't get to em all... so each week here on sidelines... we like to show you something of note we missed from the previous week.

Scott something we refer to as the hidden highlight.

Scott and tonight... we spotlight a terrific performance from merced sophomore elijah gilliam.

Last week in the 48th sante fe bowl against rival atwater.... merced lost running back andre barnett to injury... but in stepped gilliam... and he stepped up in a big way.

135 yards on 17 carries... and four touchdowns.

Helped merced win the game 44-13... their 8th straight win over atwater.

Gilliam by the way... is the younger brother of ulonzo gilliam junior... who was the offensive player of the year in the central california conference last year and signed to play at uc-davis.

Andrew ulonzo was a former high school hot shot... and we can add another running back to that select group... cause this week's hot shot is tulare union senior running back kaz-meir allen.

Allen already has 30 touchdowns through six games this year... and is averaging close to 200 yards rushing per game.

He's also a huge threat receiving and returning kicks... and has a bunch of offers from mountain west and pac-12 schools... including fresno state.

00-06 kazmeir allen "just whatever's best for me ya know whatever will put me in the best position, not only for me but for my family forward, i can catch the ball, block, put me at quarterback if you need me i'll throw the ball but i don't know i just like being all around the field ya know not mainly running back, i like doing everything.

I run with aggression ya know i run, grunt my teeth so i don't know anything in my way, i'm either juking or gonna run through you."

Andrew allen is one of three standout skill positions guys at tulare... along with senior receiver emoryie edwards... who's already committed to fresno state... and junior quarterback nathan lamb... who's also being looked at strongly by the 'dogs.

By the way... we'll have a more extensive story on kazmeir in sports during our 11 p-m newscast on sunday night.

Scott alright... andrew any final thoughts?

Andrew scott we'll see ya next week
