Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro faced increasing international pressure Friday… (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. VICE PRESIDENT MIKE PENCE, SAYING: "Nicolas Maduro is a dictator with no legitimate claim to power and he must go." Speaking to a group of Venzuelan exiles in Miami - Vice President Mike Pence said that while 20 nations have backed the self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaido… that is not enough.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. VICE PRESIDENT MIKE PENCE, SAYING: "There can be no bystanders in the struggle for Venezuela's freedom.

The United States calls on every nation to recognize Juan Guaido as Venezuela's president and take the side of freedom." The Vice President assuring Venezuelans the U.S. is ready with more than just words - and is prepared to work with the Guaido national assembly to provide humanitarian aid to the country.

Venezuela's political showdown between President Nicolas Maduro and Guaido is heating up by the day… And next week - European nations plan to take a stand.

If Maduro doesn't agree to hold elections, Britain, France, Germany and Spain are expected to throw their support behind the opposition leader Guaido on Monday, two EU diplomats told Reuters.

But don't expect strong words from European nations.

Sources say the Europeans plan to tread cautiously in the Venezuelan stand-off in fear any backing could set an example for other opposition leaders around the world.
