A windy end to the weekend

A windy end to the weekend

Friday, with highs in the low 30s.

Heading into this weekend the weather looks pleasant but by the time we get to sunday night we'll see a different pic.

Meteorologist reid kisselback takes a look at how national grid is preparing for some strong winds.

On sunday a low pressure system moves into our area.

Winds are expected to be very high across nys especially near the great lakes.

There are already high wind watches and warnings for our regionas we are expecting wind gusts to be as high as around 50 mph..

To put that into perspective that is the wind gusts you would typically see in a severe thunderstorm warning.

National grid is already calling customers to warn about the high winds and it's potential impacts.

"national grid has nearly 2,100 line, service, and tree workers ready at forecasted wind gusts in excess of 75mph impact service to customers.

" for many homeowners there are several things you can do to help prepare.

If you have any decorations out bring them inside.

Many places take trash sunday night into monday morning so try and put the trash can out as late as possible and label it as yours if possible as it will likely blow down the street.

And another good tip on sunday is to keep your phone fully charged.

"in addition to that if you experience an outage, don't assume that your neighbor has contacted national grid.

Call us at 1-800-867-5222.

If you experience a power outage and you decide to use a generator make sure you use that generator outdoors only."
