British Prime Minister Theresa May met EU leaders in Egypt in Monday hoping to get changes to the withdrawal agreement that might get her deal through the UK parliament.

Otherwise, as Francis Maguire reports, she faces the prospect of no deal or an extension to the Brexit beyond March 29th.

The British Prime Minister sat with German Chancellor and EU big-hitter Angela Merkel on Monday morning, While concerns grow over a possible delay to Brexit.

Britain is due to leave the EU on March 29th, But May wants the EU to agree to changes to the withdrawal agreement - mainly over a so-called Irish 'backstop', An insurance policy to prevent the return of a hard border between Ireland - an EU-member - and Northern Ireland.

Changes she believes might get her divorce deal through a divided UK Parliament.

Failing that - Britain could head for a disordely 'no deal'...or an extension to the exit date.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) EUROPEAN COUNCIL PRESIDENT, DONALD TUSK, SAYING: "The less time there is until the 29th of March the greater the likelihood of an extension and this is an objective fact, not our intention, not our plan but an objective fact.'' A delay is popular with markets..Sterling rallied on Monday As investors saw the chance of 'no deal' decreasing But - right now - May doesn't want an extension, (SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, THERESA MAY SAYING: "I believe it is within our grasp to leave with a deal on the 29th of March and I think that's where all our energies should be focused.

Any delay is a delay, it doesn't address the issue, it doesn't resolve the issue." May promises a vote for parliament on her divorce settlement by March 12th.

But while Brexit tensions rise - May enjoyed some downtime with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

Here taking advice on how to hold a pool cue, She needs all the friends she can get if her deal is to be voted through before March 29th.
