Black Smoke Billows From Melbourne Factory Fire

A large fire at a waste management factory in Campbellfield, Victoria, sent plumes of toxic smoke billowing over Melbourne, on Friday, April 5.Melbourne’s Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) said in a media release that 175 firefighters were battling the blaze at 16 Thornycroft Street, the address of waste management factory Bradbury Industrial Services.“The premises is believed to contain dangerous goods which have caused a number of explosions,” the MFB said in a statement.The Environment Protection Authority was also at the fire to monitor air quality, which it said was at an “unhealthy” level.Local businesses were evacuated and multiple schools shut down, Nine News reported.“Firefighters have the blaze surrounded and are working hard to bring it under control with the help of firefighting aircraft,” the MFB said in an update on Friday afternoon.
