Palmieri talking to Olbiston residents to gather firsthand accounts of living conditions

Good afternoon--im jason powles.

Utica mayor robert palmieri said he is heading to the olbiston apartments to see the situation for himself and talk with the people who live there.

The seven-story apartment building has been in utica for more than 100 years.... and the mayor says the city has been trying to get the buildings owners to fix several code violations .

Its your top story on this thursday afternoon.

The mayor tells usthe city hasbeen trying to compel the owners of the building to fix those code violations since an inspection was done in 2017.

He says the owners have not complied with the codes department or the fire department.

The city took this matter to the supreme court last august.

The mayor tells us 60- 70 people live in the building.

City and county officials are now working to find other housing options for residents who live in the building... here's a timeline of what happened this week.

Or a fire alarm was pulled tuesday... when the fire department responded, a number of codes issues, including a leaky roof were identified.

National grid cut power because of the condition of the roof on wednesday.
