ROUGH CUT.

NO REPORTER NARRATION Freed Hong Kong rights activist Joshua Wong on Monday (June 17) demanded that Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam step down after she tried to push forth a controversial extradition bill.

Wong also said that the issue should be raised at an upcoming G20 meeting.

Wong's short speech was greeted with cheers by hundreds of protesters occupying a small plot just outside the city's main legislative building.

He later told media that Hong Kong protests against the extradition bill, which would allow extradition of suspects to mainland China, should become "the issue" during the upcoming G20 summit in Osaka.

"We know that President Trump might consider to have certain discussions with Emperor Xi on the extradition law amendment of Hong Kong," said Wong.

While Lam delayed the bill at the weekend, it has yet to be completely shelved, despite widespread concern that the status of Hong Kong as a financial hub could be eroded by changes to the rule of law.
