ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION Thousands dressed in black marched to the Hong Kong Police Headquarters on Friday (June 21), occupying the roads in front of the city's most important police station and its vicinity.

Pro-democracy campaigner Joshua Wong joined the protest, condemning police violence and urging the government to drop the word "riot" to describe the demonstrations.

Demonstrators, mostly students wearing hard hats, goggles and face masks, also disrupted traffic on key roads around the legislature and the government buildings.

Millions have clogged the streets of Hong Kong this month to rally against a controversial new extradition bill, which would potentially allow fugitives to be extradited to the mainland as well as other territories such as Taiwan and Macau.

It triggered the most violent protests in decades when police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Friday's marchers demanded that the government drop all charges against those arrested in clashes between the protesters and police last week, investigate police over what they describe as disproportionate use of force, and end the practice of referring to protesters as rioters.
