Special Swedish envoy arrives in North Korea

Special envoy of the Swedish government, Kent Rolf Magnus Harstedt, arrived in Pyongyang on Monday (July 1), North Korea's state media said.

Video provided by KCNA, which Reuters cannot independently verify, showed the Swedish delegation, led by Harstedt, being greeted by a North Korean foreign ministry official at Pyongyang International Airport.

KCNA did not specify the purpose and duration of Harstedt's visit.

However, the trip is assumed to be connected with the Australian student, Alek Sigley, who has been missing for several days in North Korea, Seoul's Yonhap News Agency reported.

A student of Korean literature, 29-year old Sigley, moved to North Korea for a master's degree at Kim Il-sung University in Pyongyang.

He also ran a small touring company specialising in educational trips for foreigners visiting North Korea.
