Hong Kong police make first wave of protest arrests

This is the moment on Monday night (July 1) that masked protesters in Hong Kong broke into the parliamentary building, smashing metal shutters and breaking glass.

This extended raw footage shows the moment scores of anti-government protesters in hard hats break into the city’s legislature and go on the rampage.

After forcing entry, they then ransacked the main chamber of the Legislative Council, spraying graffiti and damaging property.

On Thursday (July 4), police began to make their first arrests.

At least 12 people were arrested on suspicion of trying to disrupt the ceremony that marked the 22nd anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to Chinese rule.

Hong Kong’s government has been trying to force through an unpopular extradition law.
