Popeyes runs out of its famed chicken sandwich

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen said Tuesday that it has sold out of its inventory of a new chicken sandwich.

This comes after a Twitter feud between Chick-fil-A and Popeyes inspired consumers to taste the new sandwich for themselves.

Say it ain't so.

After little more than two weeks since launching its new chicken sandwich, Popeyes announced on Tuesday that it has run out of the extremely popular offering, which ignited a chicken war with rival Chick-fil-A, and became a viral sensation.

In a statement, the fast-food chain said: "Popeyes aggressively forecasted demand through the end of September and has already sold through that inventory." Demand for the sandwich soared after Chick fil A caught wind of Popeyes' new offering and said on Twitter: Bun + Chicken + Pickles = love for the original Popeyes responded with a simple: "Y'all good?" And the game of chicken escalated from there.

This back and forth caught the attention of fans of both fast food chains, which led to long lines at Popeyes stores across the country.

The chicken is nice and juicy.

I even heard chick-fil-A is fake mad about it.

I gotta try it." But those interested in trying it now will just have to wait.

Popeyes promised a return for the now famed chicken sandwich soon.
