Samsung tries again with its folding phone

Samsung has relaunched its Fold smartphone after an earlier launch was aborted when the handsets proved easy to break.

Samsung is trying again with its folding smartphone.

The South Korean giant on Thursday (September 5) said it was ready to relaunch the handset, appropriately dubbed the Fold.

It was originally supposed to ship to consumers in April.

But early units supplied to journalists proved very fragile, and the launch was put on hold.

Now Samsung says it has strengthened the phone It's also promising to cover 70 percent of the cost of any screen repair once within a year.

The phone will be available to buy in South Korea on Friday.

Launches will follow in countries including Britain, France, Germany and the U.S. - though Samsung hasn't specified any dates.

The Fold won't be for budget-conscious shoppers.

It will retail at about 2,000 dollars.

Rival Huawei has also postponed the launch of its folding phone.

With the firm battling U.S. sanctions, there's still no date for its debut.
