Violence and vandalism in Hong Kong

A Hong Kong protest descended into chaos the late hours of Friday when protesters attacked bystanders and dismantled signs at an MTR station in the Yau Ma Tei district.

Demonstrators also lit fires and set up roadblocks in order to prevent the police from dispersing the crowd.

Protesters had previously congregated outside Prince Edward station in Mong Kok, one of the world's most densely populated regions, demanding an investigation a week after members of the police Special Tactical Squad stormed a train and allegedly beat bystanders.

The protests are expected to continue into the weekend, with the Asian financial hub bracing for weekend demonstrations aiming to disrupt transport links to the airport after Lam's withdrawal of a controversial extradition bill failed to appease some activists.

Many protesters have pledged to fight on despite the withdrawal of the extradition bill, saying the concession is too little, too late.
