Trump could shoot someone and escape prosecution: his lawyer

An attorney for the president, told the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that Trump has immunity until he leaves office and said prosecutors would not even have the power to do anything if Trump shot someone on 5th Avenue in New York City.

Trump could shoot someone and escape prosecution: his lawyer

Lawyers for President Donald Trump and New York state prosecutors trying to obtain his tax returns faced off on Wednesday in a federal appeals court… Where an attorney for the president made a stunning claim that even if Trump were to shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue, as the president himself has asserted in the past, he would be immune from criminal investigation.

His attorney was trying to show just how far his argument goes: that as long as Trump is in office, he cannot be prosecuted or investigated and does not have to hand over his tax returns to New York state prosecutors.

When the Circuit Judge asked Trump's attorney if authorities would be powerless to do anything if Trump shot someone.

His lawyer responded: "That's correct." The president's attorneys made the claim while arguing against Manhattan District Attorney

Class="kln">Cyrus Vance, a Democrat who subpoenaed Trump's personal and corporate tax returns from 2011 to 2018.

The subpoena is part of a criminal probe into Trump and his family business.
