Alberto Fernandez Beats Mauricio Macri In Argentine Elections

Peronist Alberto Fernandez had 47.79 percent of the vote ahead of Macri who only had 40.71 percent.

With more than 90 percent of ballots counted, Fernandez went over the 45 percent threshold needed.

It was necessary to reach the threshold to avoid a runoff and win the election outright.

Macri understood the loss and conceded the race, congratulating Fernandez.

He then invited Fernandez to the presidential palace to discuss an orderly transition.
