Boris Johnson says London Bridge killer could not have been rehabilitated in prison

On a visit to Southampton, the Prime Minister replied to criticisms of “politicising” the London Bridge terror attack, after promising to end early release for people convicted of terrorism, if they were to retain power.

The family of Jack Merritt called for the murder of their son to not be exploited for political gain.

Blaming the current system, Mr Johnson insisted that this pledge has been something he had personally campaigned for, whilst passing on his sympathies to the Merritt family.
