Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says he 'understood' that some of the debris from the Ukrainian airliner crash in Tehran has been moved to a hangar at the airport to reconstruct the scene, and said the number of Canadian citizens killed was lowered to 57 from 63.

Grief-stricken Iranians and others posted images related to Wednesday’s Ukrainian airliner crash in Tehran, and some on social media expressed worries over images, which could not be independently verified, circulating online that suggested the crash site had been cleared by bulldozers.

Iran's ambassador to Britain denied that.

Champagne on Friday said he understood "some of this debris has been moved to a hangar at the airport to reconstruct the scene." Asked how much confidence Canada could have in the integrity of the probe, he said he expected the Iranian government to follow established protocols for investigating disasters.

After further review of passenger data, the number of Canadian citizens killed was lowered to 57 from 63, Champagne said.
