HAERTY COMING IN AFTER HER RUN STORY: The 2020 Freeride World Tour got off to a high-flying start in Hakuba, Japan with Drew Tabke (USA) and Hedvig Wessel (NOR) topping the ski events and Victor de le Rue (FRA) and Marion Haerty (FRA), getting top honours in snowboard.

Two-time world champion Tabke had a smooth, technical run to score 89.67 points as the 35-year-old skier cruised to his first event win since 2013.

Wessel, who placed fourth in 2019, went for big with one of the biggest backflips of the day as she rode to the top of the podium in women's ski.

Going all out in Japan with a massive laid out backflip, France's De le Rue has set himself up in perfect position as he looks to repeat his 2019 snowboard championship with his score of 83.67.

France also took home the top position in the women's snowboard event as De le Rue's compatriot Haerty showed off with a fluid run that scored her 74.00 points, enough to top the podium in Hakuba.

The year's second event will be in Kicking Horse, British Columbia starting February 6.
