Andrew Yang has dropped out of the Democratic Presidential race.

On Tuesday, the New Hampshire primary delivered him a second straight slow showing.

He bowed out before final results when he was pulling in less than 3% of the vote.

Yang announced his bitter disappointment but thanked voters for their support.

He said he was overwhelmed by voters telling him that his campaign had got them excited about politics for the first time.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL ANDREW YANG SAYING: "While there is great work left to be done, you know I am the math guy, and it is clear tonight from the numbers that we are not going to win this race.

I am not someone who wants to accept donations and support in race we will not win, so tonight I'm announcing I'm suspending my campaign for president." The 45-year-old was a surprise to many for even qualifiting for the Democrat debates despite having no political background.

Instead the son of Taiwanese immigrants pointed to his experience in the tech industry to make the case for his signature campaign issue - proposing a universal basic income.

He also warned of the perils of automation destroying millions of manufacturing jobs.

Yang's exit means an end to the country's first bid for an Asian-American president.

He did pledge to support whoever wins the Democratic nomination to take on Trump.

This campaign has awakened something fundamental in this country and ourselves." [It's a movement!]
