It's called "winning wednesday."

Every wednesday... we're going to feature a different charity that we love.

And then hayley and i are going to try our hand at the "lee and hayley" slot machine... and whatever money we win... we are gonna give to that charity.

Our very first charity that we wanna feature is the genesis foundation... from first baptist church of winchester.

The non-profit helps marginalized people reach their maximum potential for professional, academic, and personalgrowth.

Pastor marvin king believes that by making a difference in the life of one child, we can see communities flourish.

"to take that family from having no hope, to having hope, we can see communities transformed."

King is pastor at the first baptist church of winchester and founder of the genesis foundation of kentucky.

The non-profit organization aims to help low-income and marginalized people maximize their opportunities for professional and personal growth.

One of the community outreach efforts of the genesis foundation is the read to succeed academic enrichment program.

Volunteers with the program work with children from pre-k to sixth grade to help improve their reading and phonetic skills, both of which are tied to a child's behavior, their overall test scores, and ultimately, their success.

Although the mentoring is done in the church, the genesis foundation works closely with local schools to identify kids who would benefit from the program.

The foundation even provides transportation and food for the kids.

The read to succeed program works closely with the families of the students to build those relationships and to help not only the child, but their loved ones as well.

"this grandmother, at the conclusion of our previous semester, had informed us that this program was such a help to her and her family."

"so she came after one of our read to succeed sessions and informed us that the twins are now getting a's on their spelling tests, as opposed to failing previously.

And she teared up, and she was crying, because she said, she encouraged us to continue with the program because it is making a difference."

But it doesn't stop there, the genesis foundation also helps adults reach goals and find opportunities.

They connect people with jobs, they teach people how to manage their finances and they offer transitional housing.

The foundation even has a food pantry.
