Thornberry calls for military support to get Britons home

Emily Thornberry has criticised the Government’s new arrangement with airlines to carry stranded British citizens to the UK.

Under the arrangement, airlines are responsible for bringing passengers home where commercial routes remain open.

The shadow foreign secretary told the story of one family who would have been charged £61,000 to return home and accused some commercial airlines of, “simply taking the mickey”.

Ms Thornberry called for military support to help stranded Britons return to the UK.
