- gulfport assistant colton caver- tells news 25, he's starting- up the deep south summer- collegiate league... for- committed high school seniors..- or enrolled junior college- players.- caver plans on capping the- first-year limit, at 120 guys..- who - will then be divided into - four-to-six teams... to play a- 20-game season... beginning jun- 13th.

- obviously... covid-19 could hav- something to say about that - start date... but either way...- caver says the foundation to hi- the ground running, either this- year or next year... will - already be in place.- he says 60 players have already- committed to- playing, in the new league... 2- of them hailing from right- here... on the gulf coast.- this opportunity is first come,- first serve... so caver is- urging- interested players... to join - the movement asap.- - "most of the kids we have wanting to play - right now and signed up to play- are kids already in college.

An- my big focus from - here on out is trying to get a- lot of those seniors in high- school who have already - committed to play at the next - level and to get the word out t- them, because it's- going to be more important for- them than anybody cause they- - - - just lost two- thirds of their- season.

And if they go six- months without competition and- try to- go play college baseball, - they're going to be behind.

- especially if we don't- go back to school, and that's - the big thing that i really - wanted to push out tonight to - - - - those high school seniors who - have already committed to go- play somewhere."

- - - caver says all the games will - all be played in the hattiesbur- area... at area high schools an- colleges.

- news 25 will bring you this ful- story tomorrow night- at 9 and 10... where you'll get- to hear from some of the- local players... more than read- to get back on the diamond.

- - now let's take a look at that - local high school - breakdown, by the amount of - committed players... in - alphabetical order.
