Chico Fire Department prepared for the virus, now and long term

One Northern California Fire Department is preparing for impacts of the coronavirus not just now ---but also long term.

Morning - one northern california fire department is preparing for the coronavirus not just now but long term too.

Action news now reporter jafet serrato spoke to the chico fire chief about this... jafet are they prepared if it gets worse?

I asked him*tha* question.

He says he can't predict what happens but they do have help if that happens.

Chico chief steve standridge says if there was ever an outbreak in the city it would look a lot like a wildfire response.

Cal fire and oroville fire would share resources with them.

Standridge says right now his 50 firefighters stand ready to do what's needed to combat the virus.

"in this particular case we not be able to rely upon state resources as the entire states being affected by this.

We have to be prepared to deal with this in our own county."

Standridge says he is contact with cal o-e-s only on a regional level.

They're following guidelines from the c-d-c and public health on how his crew responds to calls.

Standridge says this plan could change if neighboring cities need the same level of response as they do.

In that case - he says he would try to only use his staff so resources aren't depleted in other cities.

In chico jafet serrato action news now.
