Action news now reporter kristian lopez is live at chico city chambersã kristian, you spoke with city leaders& how are they tackling the issue?

Chico city manager mark orme says they've hired a solution coordinator, specifically to help manage coronavirus concerns related to the homeless population.

That person is working with the county and service providers to help mitigate the impacts and look for different solutions.

Orme says - if a homeless individual were to test positive for the coronavirus, the coordinator will help try to get them housed.

They are also working to help educate people on the current order.

The city of chico has been proactive in bringing on board a homeless solutions coordinator and we are evaluating what areas we can help address some of the concerns related to the most vulnerable population and we've been proactively looking at ways of reaching out to ensure that we encouraging folks who at this time don't have homes to shelter at the best of their abilities.

When i asked him about governor newsom wanting to shelter the homeless during this pandemic, orme says those conversations are constantly taking place here as well and they are looking at all of the different options they have.

He says, the city is receiving reports that gatherings are still taking place and they plan on putting more direct signage up this week in different areas like the city plaza to remind people to practice social distancing.
