Thai pensioner found dead after being electrocuted when stepping on exposed wires

A pensioner was found dead in her chicken coop after being electrocuted when she stepped on exposed wires.

Sawat Kongmun, 74, was discovered by her brother surrounded by the roosters on her farm in Ang Thong, central Thailand on Tuesday (28/04) morning.

The shocked brother contacted the police who examined the body and noticed severe burns across both of her legs.

A few meters away from the body, the police found electric wires with the plastic coating peeling off.

They were connected to the plug socket.

Sawatbrother Sawing Sukkho, 59, said he believed his sister has died because she stepped on the wires.

He said he blamed himself for tinkering with the wires to fix a light in the building and then leaving them strewn across the ground.

He said: "I peeled off the electric wires to fix a light bulb, but then I left them connected to the socket when I went to bed.

"I think she might have come to see me in the morning and wanted to help clear the mess but accidentally stumbled on the wire and was electrocuted." The deceased's son Tripob Kongmun, 36, said his family is not going to blame his uncle as they believed it was just an accident.

He said: "My mother always went to see my uncle every morning since our houses are close to each other.

"The family did not want to blame my uncle because we believe he did not want this to happen as well so we will ask the police not to charge him and will hold a funeral for her as soon as we can."
