More than 600.

The latest developments in the shoals are a clear example of how the virus can be tracked from one person to another in order to find out where cases are coming from.

It's just another example of contact tracing - which is something happening across the country right now.

Waay 31's sydney martin joins us live at huntsville city hall this afternoon - after learning more about contact tracing from the alabama department of public health.

Here at huntsville city hall today- doctor karen landers talked about contact tracing.

It's how just about every health department is tracing people who tested positive for coronavirus back to people they were in contact with.

Landers said contract tracing is a process that's been in place for years and was used as a standard protocol to trace diseases before coroanvrus.

She said the alabama department public health workers are the ones who are involved.

But on a much larger level than ever before.

She explained they've investigated more than 13 thousand contacts so it's taken a considerable amount of time but is important to stop the spread of the virus.

This has been a lot of effort on the part of our disease control investigators from our other programs in public health landers said they're looking into software and other ways to gather this information but it's not avialable yet.
