1 dead after early morning house fire on Fay Drive

One person is dead after an early morning house fire on the city's southwest side Saturday.

Tonight we have exclusive footage of a fire that destroyed a home in fort wayne early this morning.

A woman and her dog were found dead after firefighters rush inside.

Fox 55's mallory beard was on the scene and spoke to her friends and neighbors.

Flames lit up the night sky over fay drive early this morning.neighbor kevin williams awakened by firefighters flooding his neighborhood captured this video with his phone."i just saw flashing lights outside my window...came outside.

Fort wayne firefighters say they arrived within three minutes and were told someone was possibly inside the two-story home.firefighters fordced their way in.deputy chief adam o'connor//fort wayne fire department "there was a piece of plywood over the front door.

So engine 2 knocked down the visible fire on the first floor and then pried the wood off the front door and found the victim immediately inside."

Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes but say the house is destroyed a giant hole in the east wall.deputy chief adam o'connor//fort wayne fire department "it'll be torn down.

It's a complete loss."

Williams hasn't lived in the area for more than a year, but says the woman was always pleasant in passing.

"i've known her for about eight months.

She was always friendly, friendly with the neighbors, walking with her dog."

Williams says the dog also died in the fire.he and his neighbors today watched as arson investigators combed through the ashes of the home saddened by the tragic start to memorial day weekend.kevin williams//neighbor "i just wish and pray the best for her family.
