(SOUNDBITE) (English) RESIDENT OF ISLE OF ARRAN, DAVY BALLANTYNE, SAYING: "Hello, my name is Davy Ballantyne and today I'm starting a challenge to try and walk around the coastline of the Isle of Arran, approximately 70 miles.

This was originally going to be a challenge to raise money for type-one diabetes.

It's very personal to me, but due to circumstance, that's changed.

So, I'm hoping to try and do this in ten days and try to raise money for the Samaritans who are doing a phenomenal job at the moment." VARIOUS OF BALLANTYNE DRAGGING WHISKY BARREL THROUGH RIVER STORY: Davy Ballantyne, a 59-year-old resident of the Isle of Arran in Scotland is transporting a 50kg barrel of whisky around the island's coastline to raise money for charity.

Ballantyne started his walk on Monday (May 18) with a hope to complete the 70-mile distance in 10 days in total, depending on the weather and ruggedness of the terrain.

At times he tips the barrel end-over-end, at others he drags it across rivers or carries it on his back with a friend videoing every step of the way and posting the footage online.

Ballantyne is raising funds for the Samaritans, an organisation providing counselling for people contemplating suicide or suffering depression and other mental health problems. He says carrying and pushing the barrel symbolises life's struggles.

It's not the first fundraising effort for Ballantyne.

He dragged a 120kg anvil up the 874-meter high (approximate 956 yards) Goatfell mountain four years ago and two years ago he walked up 1,345-meter high (approximate 1,471 yards) Ben Nevis mountain, the highest mountain in the British Isles, with 60kg of chains wrapped around his chest.

Ballantyne's first two challenges were to raise money for type-one diabetes research.
