Sprint champ Coleman faces missed dope test ban

World 100 meters champion Christian Coleman, who narrowly escaped a ban last year for missing three doping tests, was provisionally suspended on Wednesday and could miss next year's Tokyo Olympics after again breaching whereabouts rules.

Adam Reed reports.

The American sprinter and World 100 meters champion Christian Coleman has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unity over an ongoing anti-doping enquiry, meaning he now could miss next year's Tokyo Olympics.

The AIU says Coleman failed to properly file his whereabouts three times.

The check-ins are designed to monitor athletes for doping violations.

Ahead of the official announcement that he'd violated the rules, Coleman put a statement on Twitter maintaining his innocence.

He said, "Don't tell me I "missed" a test if you sneak up on my door (parked outside the gate and walked through...there's no record of anyone coming to my place) without my knowledge," He went on to say he was out Christmas shopping on the December 9th date in question and accused anti-doping agents of setting a trap to get him.

The AIU says the three violations happened over a 12-month period, meaning he could be looking at a one- or two-year suspension.

Coleman recorded the 6th fastest time in history when he won 100 meters gold in Doha last year.

He’s pledged to fight the doping charge, even saying he’d take a test every day for the rest of his career to prove he’s never taken performance enhancing drugs.
