Shoppers ignore social distancing despite Covid-19 spike in the Philippines

Footage shows chaotic scenes at a public market as shoppers ignore social distancing measures despite the spike in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.

Ivan Carlos Harold Jenayon said he is starting to worry since the bustling market is near his apartment in Caloocan City.

He took the video on July 22 but said that this has been the situation at the market every morning.

He said: "I even saw some who did not wear mask on top of not following proper social distancing rules." In the video, market-goers flock in front of fish and meat stall vendors without a few meter distance between them.

The country has the fastest-growing number of new COVID-19 cases among over 20 countries and territories in Western Pacific Region, based on the data of World Health Organization since June 16.

The Department of Health (DOH) announces the highest single-day record of COVID-19 cases with 4,963 confirmed cases on Saturday, August 1 which brings the total number of cases to more than 100,000 patients.
