A storm chaser captured these incredible pictures after chasing heavy clouds for more than 300 miles across the UK.The dramatic clouds laced with lightning bolts were captured by Sam Whitfield, 29, after he travelled across most of the country in search of them.He set off from his home in Plymouth, Devon, with friend Jenna Shephard, 26, and followed the storm all the way to Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire.Professional photographer Sam said he drove more than 320 miles last Friday to capture the perfect images and it was worth the wait.He said: "It was touch and go as to whether I was going to go, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go for it - if it fails it fails."My gut was saying we should go to the Midlands, but the Kent area was looking more favourable because there was a plume coming up from France."I wasn't feeling it, so I went to Cambridge and sat tight there, that way I could go either way."It got to about 3pm on Friday and I had to make decision, there wasn't much activity coming up from France and I noticed on one of the radars there were clouds forming over Oxford."I headed to the Midlands, and about 45 minutes out from Leicester there was a cell which turned into a storm. "We got into Leicestershire and as soon as we did it kicked up, there were big thunder storms and we tracked it to Gainsborough in Lincolnshire."That's where I stopped and got the images, they show lightning in storm clouds.

We were in the storm, it wasn't too thundery but there was lots of lightning. "It was a long and dramatic chase, we had to be constantly ahead and make quick decisions.

Everyone is different but this one was a bit dodgy."
