The state of illinois has awarded 15 community colleges with over 100 million dollars.

Funding is part of the rebuild illinois capital plan.

News 10 bureau chief gary brian tells us how one wabash valley school is using the funding.

Gar} "for a decade olney central college has been working up plans for a new technology center.

Now thanks to the state of illinois that project is funded."

For years the campus at olney central college has gone relatively un changed.

About five years ago an collision repair technology addition was built.

But large additions have been few and far between.

That's about to change.

"we have received funding for the applied technology center here at olney central college.

It's going to provide us an opportunity to expand some of the facilities for our allied health program."

The addition will add new classrooms and labs for the schools nursing and applied sciences degrees.

This includes adding radiography, phlebotomy, and basic nurse assistant training programs. the addition is a project that has been on the drawing board for a decade.

"we are looking at some space in front of campus.

It'll provide a good front door for the campus for students coming in and also tie in with some of our other programs that we're hoping to move around."

The state of illinois is providing 2.3 million dollars of funding to occ.

However that's not the total pricetag of the project.

"it's a sizable amount of money that iecc will have to provide, it's the 25 percent local share match.

But when you think about the fact that i think that olney central's project has been a little over a decade on the list.

These are projects that we have been anticipating and we are ready to fund."

While the details are still being worked out...school leaders are ready to give students a better opportunity.

Lincoln trail college in crawford county is also getting funding from the state.

The state of illinois has awarded lincoln trail 8.3 million dollars.

Funding will go to build ltc their own technology cente both lincoln trail and olney central college are illinois eastern community colleges.

Lincoln trail's facility will house technical programs like process technology and broadband telecommunications.

It will also house the school's university partnership center.

"you've got to give students the hands on opportunities.

Sometimes that's climbing scafolding, working with scale valves and transfer tanks, and things of that nature.

This technology center is going to give us the ability to finally provide a learning environment our students need to excel in those areas."
