Now, new research shows bad weather also impacts the upper respiratory system.

According to CNN, emergency room visits for seniors with breathing problems such as asthma and COPD rise significantly the day before thunderstorms. While the study looked at patients 65 and older, the researchers say the danger is just as real for younger people with severe respiratory illnesses.
