Students at Hamilton College started arriving to campus on Aug. 17.

While this year will certainly be different, some students are taking an optimistic approach to the pandemic.

Newschannel 2's kirk tupaj tells us how the college is achieving that mindset.

Hamilton college alumni are sticking to the tradition of welcoming new students with a roadside celebration.

It's a little different this year.

Students have to remain 6 feet apart and wear a mask, but the director of orientation and first year programs says the message they're sending to freshmen is the same.

Students will have to quarantine in their rooms for 48 hours while awaiting test results.

Going to college through a pandemic may seem like it'd be frustrating, but some students are taking an entirely different perspective to this new experience.

Sot: alex nemeth, hamilton college junior in some respects we're getting skills out of this that i never would have had to have gotten otherwise.

My ability to use zoom certainly to facilitate orientation stuff is going through the roof.

I'm kind of getting familiar with a lot of different technologies that i would have no interest or need to learn, so like we're getting some skills that otherwise would have been neglected.

Sot: nina lissarrague, hamilton college junior as someone who likes to talk a lot in class, having to like virtually raise my hand instead of in person, it gave me an extra moment to think through what i wanted to say, and i find it kind of changed my education in a way that for me at least was really beneficial.

Students will be socially distanced throughout the campus, and classes will be a mixture of in person and online.

The students seem willing to adapt to pandemic life, but how are the staff handling the changes?
