Dramatic scenes in Hong Kong as plainclothes police arrest pro-democracy protesters

Plainclothes police officers today (September 6th) arrested several pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

Footage showed the officers pinning the protesters to the middle of road in Mongkok and then arresting them.

Police were filmed violently dragging one protester to the pavement.

Protesters took to the streets on the day that Legco (Legislative Council of Hong Kong) elections were due to take place before they were cancelled by chief executive Carrie Lam, citing the need to stop the spread of COVID-19.

"Online calls went out calling for a march from Jordan to Mongkok but it was quickly quashed by the police via multiple stop and searches of shoppers or protesters alike," according to an eyewitness.

"A timid attempt to block roads in Mongkok with some cardboards was followed by the arrests seen in the video," the witness added.
