Venezuelans Stuck In State-Run Quarantine Motels Say They're More Like Prisons

To quarantine patients suspected of having COVID-19, Venezuela's government has been using motels and other makeshift facilities for their housing.

It's a bid to separate them from the general population and keep them from overburdening the country's already depleted and crumbling hospitals.

But according to CNN, their guests say the facilities are dirty, crowded, and prison-like.

What's more, they lack proper food, hygiene, and even coronavirus testing.

President Nicolas Maduro claims Venezuela has some of the lowest COVID-19 numbers in Latin America.

However, experts say the number of deaths and cases may be severely underreported due to insufficient testing.
