*George The Poet's* deconstruction of racism in the UK has gone viral.

The spoken word artist and broadcaster was invited to speak about the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests, and turned his sights to the UK.

Recalling his own experiences as a Black man in this country, he discussed increased use of stop and search, police violence, and the impact endemic racism has on the mental health of the Black community.

The clip went viral, with his words seeming to ignite a debate about our own - distinctly British - type of racism, about the Imperial legacy and our cultural self-denial.

The past seven days have seen a number of online commentators praising British life in comparison to the United States - George The Poet's vital words reinforce our need to look closer to home, to start listening, and work towards something better.
