Off-leash area for small dogs proposed north of Eugene

Dogs only have been a*big hit in eugene but one woman says it's time for the county to get on board.

As kezi 9 news reporter michael sevren show us one could be coming soon north of eugene and why dog lovers says their needed.

For brian pahle taking his boston terrier "cora" to lola's park in south eugene not only gives her a chance to play off-leash, but gives him peace of mind.

Sot: some of those dogs play to rough, they're not aggrieve they're not fighting but they bite.

Lola's park is for dogs 25 pound and under only.

It was built in memory of lola... a small dog that was killed in the amazon dog park in 2009.

Today... ivana buric... a north eugene resident... hopes a similar place comes to armitage park off of coburg road.

She says right now she doesn't feel comfortable taking her two small dogs to the county owned park to play in the same place as the big dogs.

Sot: phoner their very lively, and they race all over, and it just takes one aggressive dog to cause trouble.

She submitted her idea for the small- dog park to the lane county park advisory committee, and on monday it passed a big hurdle.

County officials tell me the committee approved the recommendation unanimously.

Stand up: while an advisory committee has voted to recommended he new small dog park, the county commissioner still need to weigh in.

County officials tell me that could happen by the end of the year and if approved it would be the county's first.

Sot: people will come to appreciate it, weather they know they need it or not.

Buric says with north eugene seeing a lot of new homes being built, having a place for small dogs to play off- leash safely is needed for many.

But for now she's taking her dogs to other small dog parks in eugene and springfield.

Sot: phoner: it's ten miles i would rather go to some place in the neighborhoods
