Unique a unique partnership has formed between video gaming....and indiana's military.

The indiana national guard has partnered with the indiana high school e-sports network.

News 10's dominic miranda spoke with both the inidiana national guard and the e-sports network today.

He joins us now with more information on this unique collaboration.

I'm here at ebash gaming center in terre haute.

It's a place where you can come and game competitively online.

Esports is something that's gaining popularity in the state of indiana.

So much so it has a new partner...the indiana national guard.

Here's a little more on how this partnership came to be and what esports really is.

I spoke with co-founder of the indiana high school e-sports network john robertson.

He told me this started as just a side gig run by full time teachers..

To bring esports to every high school in indiana there were 14 teams the first season.

Now in less than a year...it's grown to 44 schools across the state.

I also talked i also talked with sergeant steven smith of the indiana national guard.

He says after visiting an e-sports summit in washington d.c...he knew this partnership would benefit both sides.

"it gives us another avenue to get some one on one face time with students and coaches and talk about the benefits we have to offer young adults."

"it's not just a bunch of guys sitting around goofing off playing games.

We're trying to bring actual skills and real sport to these kids."

Now both these men told me about how this partnership will be beneficial for both parties.
