For the man accused of being the golden state killer and sacramento's east area rapist say he is ready to make a deal.

The defense team for joseph deangelo say the accused serial killer has offered to plead guilty to the charges against him if he could get a lifetime sentence without the death penalty.

Presecutors accuse deangelo of killing at least 13 people, raping upward of 50 women and burglarizing dozens of homes in the 1970s and '80s.

One veteran criminal defense attorney says the deal could prevent a costly and complicated court battle, and would likely have the same outcome.

The chances that this individual would be executed are very slim in my opinion and the chances and the likelihood that he would die in custody far exceed the chances that the state would execute this person deangelo is slated to appear in sacramento county court march 12.

The former police officer was arrested in citrus heights in 2018, thanks to dna technology, after decades of eluding authorities.
