Tishomingo county has started getting back on it's feet after a tornado hit the area on Tuesday.

The folks in tishomingo county are getting back on it's feet after tuesday's ef-1 tornado.

This couch here is far away from the living room where it came from.

It used to be in this home.

Tuesday's tornado destroyed the home.

I got a chance to speak with the homeowner.

She says everyone is ok but, she's still coming to terms with the fact that her house is gone.

Ashley dexter is still in disbelief as she walked through what's left of her house.

Sot ashley dexter, home detroyed in tornado- "it was just a sinking feeling inside."

She didn't want us to show her face.

She recalls taking shelter in a neighbor's basement and listening to tuesday's tornado rip her house apart.

Sot ashley dexter- " we knew that what we were hearing wasn't just the roof coming off.

And it was more than the roof.

Her home, her grandfather's workshop and cherished memories are gone.

Sot ashley dexter- "everything was everywhere.

It was a lot of tin wrapped around trees, trees snapped, furniture in the yard."

Nats "this is all my school stuff.

I had my school papers in the shed."

Dexter's home and other areas around highway 30 still have major debris.

There is still debris on the roads and many people still out of power.

The mayor says the city is already ahead of the curve on recovery .

Sot james tennyson, mayor- "some of them could be out for a week.

There is major, major damage on highway 30."

But mayor james tennyson and dexter are grateful for volunteers.

Sot- ashley dexter- "we'll never be able to thank people enough for all they've done for us" tennyson says city workers 1st priority to recovery will be getting all the excess debris picked up off the streets and out of the area's drainage ditches.

He also says the city might not meet the damage threshold for federal aid but he and city leaders are exploring other avenues to fund recovery efforts live in tishomingo county, sydney darden wtva 9 news.
