Logansport Memorial Hospital opens walk-in COVID-19 testing clinic

Perry: we'd like to think that at this point we're a little bit ahead of the curb in some of the rural areas with opening up this intermediate respiratory clinic.

Nat pop: gloves snapping micah: logansport memorial hospital president perry gay says the goal for this clinic is getting patients the help they need without overloading the hospital or other healthcare providors.

Perry: we have had a lot of patients that have been going to our express medical center but now they have an opportunity to come here where we separate the patient population.

Micah: the covid-19 clinic is located at the cass county fairgrounds.

It's open everyday with varying hours.

Dr. dori ditty says they're looking to help anyone experiencing the common coronavirus symptoms. dori: fever, cough, shortness of breath, chest pain.

Micah: this clinic offers flu and coronavirus testing for those experiencing mild symptoms if symptoms are severe enough, they do suggest going straight to the hospitals.

Dori: if we find someone that is needing something, more than what we're able to provide here, these people will be directed or transported to the hospital.

Micah stand up: right now the clinic has 15 cots and they're willing to expand if necessary.

Now the process works in three steps, step one is triage, step two, examination, and step three, testing if necessary.

Ryan: this is something that i don't think anybody in this room ever thought that we would have to do.

Micah: cass county commissioner ryan browning says figuring out the logistics of this clinic couldn't have happened without the partnership between the county, the mayor's office and hospital leaders.

Ryan: coming here to the fairgrounds was the best thing we had, we got a shelter we could use and we could set up cots.

We have restrooms, we have hot water,we have the stuff that we need to do that.

Chris: right now, we're going through a rough time but together, we will get through this and that's the biggest part coming together like a community never before.

The results for testing take about four to seven days to get.
