We have just learned that someone in marion county has now died of covid-19.

County officials say he was a former south pittsburg council member, and died yesterday.

We also learned tonight, 2 hamilton county residents have now died of coronavirus.

And hamilton county is now seeing more cases.

Hamilton county health department leaders announced 2 more cases this afternoon.

That brings the total number to 39, with 2 deaths.

Becky barnes with the health department also said there's evidence that people are not social distancing within our community.

She says we are not doing a good job of keeping our distance from people, and that needs to change.

People are coming in close contact with others who are not in their immediate family.

If the spread of covid-19 , in hamilton county is to be contained , this kind of activity has to stop.

Chattanooga mayor andy berke and hamilton county mayor jim coppinger have formed a joint task force to coordinate their response.

They will be getting advice and recommendation s from top health professionals.

Tennessee governor bill lee announced today, he's issuing a statewide "safer-at-home" order to help slow down the spread of the virus.

He mandates that all non-essential businesses close.

The governor is also urging residents to stay a home as much as possible for the next two weeks.
